"Chelsea, I wrote this song for and about you when you were first placed in solitary confinement and were being silenced. You made a decision to take action when most others weren't willing to take even small risks to expose the injustices happening in Iraq. I was working on your defense campaign at the time, and organizing with veterans and active-duty folks in the anti-war movement.

The lyrics follow the fingerprints of those you observed torturing and killing Iraqi dissidents, led in part by former U.S. colonel James Steele, who led similar operations in Latin America decades earlier. The story of Crazy Horse is brought up to draw a connection both to the advent of "counter-insurgency" strategy in the genocidal wars the U.S. Cavalry conducted in the American West in the second half of the 19th century, and to the fact that the pilot in the helicopter shooting video you exposed to the world used that very name as a moniker. It is no irony that the Apache Helicopter which fired those rounds is itself a reference to that same period of genocide, displacement, and mass murder.
